Biking in Maine and Italy: Discerning Traveler Selects Bike Riders: "Highly- recommended!" Linda and David Glickstein, publishers of a number of travel books and the widely acclaimed newsletter, The Discerning Traveler, joined us on Bike Riders' Maine's Hidden Coast cycling trip last summer. Specializing in uncovering wonderful inns, off the beaten path destinations and superb dining, The Discerning Traveler and Bike Riders are a perfect pair. Cracking lobsters in New Harbor, cycling into the picture perfect village of Newcastle, relaxing in the colorful gardens of the Bradley Inn and enjoying the spectacular coastal views from the terrace of the Five Gables Inn, Linda and David were delighted by their travels with Bike Riders.
Last fall, The Discerning Traveler linked up with Bike Riders once again. This time Linda and David traveled to Italy to join Bike Riders' Guest Chef Series, our Cycling and Cucina in Umbria. In addition to some great riding in a picture perfect landscape, their week included an organic olive oil tasting, visiting a family's workshop for hand painted majolica ceramics, and cooking up some delicious stringozzi pasta and game dishes with acclaimed chef, Francis Reynard. As seasoned travelers, Linda & David Glickstein remarked that our perfect mix of elegant inns, a la carte dining and personal attention really made their trip shine.
Full of insight and careful attention to all the details, Bike Riders recommends The Discerning Traveler for any of your vacation planning in New England this summer. To subscribe to The Discerning Traveler Newsletter or to purchase any of their books on New England and the Mid Atlantic States, visit their website at www.discerningtraveler.com

Walking in Umbria After 15 years of designing the most suggestive itineraries for two wheels, Bike Riders is happy to announce our first ever 3 day walking trip in Umbria. If by bike or on foot, with Bike Riders you can always enjoy one extra step of personal service, attention to detail, first rate comfort and, above all, a travel experience saturated with the locale.
Explore Umbria on leisurely walks through vineyards, along centuries old foot paths and into tiny hamlets frozen in time. We are tempted to linger in the villages, enjoy a cappuccino in the piazza, taste-test artisan olive oils and sip the local vino...a true slice of the Umbrian way of life. Located between Florence and Rome, among silver green olive trees, majestic Roman pines and sloping vineyards, Umbria is a region undiscovered by many. Home to mystical hill towns and magnificent fortresses, Umbria harks back to its powerful medieval days. As we walk through fabled towns and by frescoes and palaces of centuries past, Umbria promises an unforgettable taste of the Italian way of life.
Walking in Umbria: October 18-20

The Lazy Days of Summer In the leisurely months of summer, the roads and villages in the northern half of France seem empty as vacationing locals head for the shores and beaches of the Mediterranean. Burgundy is far enough to the north to benefit from this flight to the sea, yet far enough to the south so that the song of cicadas can be heard on late afternoon breezes and a descent into the dim coolness of a winemaker's cellar is a welcome relief from the sun.
Burgundy strikes exactly the right balance between summer crowds and empty streets: a relaxing mix of quiet country roads, sunlit vineyards, and sidewalk cafés in medieval towns, where visitors relax in the warm sun between forays into inviting shops. Come with us and enjoy the languid pace of summer in Burgundy.
Bicycling in Burgundy: July 18-24, Aug 8-14, Sep 19-25, Oct 3-9
