Lighthouses, lobsters and pristine beaches in Down East Maine. Maine brings to mind salt air, stately green pines and tiny fishing villages that still retain the decidedly New England way of life. As we wind along Penobscot Bay, our stops include the bustling port of Camden, exclusive Islesboro Island and picturesque Castine. From snug harbors to white steepled churches and proud lighthouses, our biking reveals the best of Maine.

Day 3 & 4 Camden & Islesboro Island
We start the day with a relaxing ride along the base of Camden Hills State Park. We pedal along Lake Megunticook and stop for a picnic at Barrett's Cove. The next day we ferry to Islesboro Island, which boasts miles of quiet island roads and pristine beaches. From here we catch the Quicksilver around Pendleton Point to Castine.

|
Day 5 & 6 Castine & Blue Hill
We ride backcountry roads and rolling farmland, arriving in Blue Hill, an artists' community dotted with craft shops and galleries. Later, opt for a ride to the natural phenomena of Blue Hill Falls, actually a tidal surge caused by the converging of the incoming tide with the outgoing river. We have a toast in the garden and enjoy a farewell dinner at our inn. Chef Tom Gutow prepares fresh mussel bisque, sea scallops, and olive crusted salmon, along with other seasonal delicacies.
• Two nights at The Castine Inn, an old-fashioned inn and gourmet restaurant set in the heart of town.

"(The Castine Inn...) superb cuisine...an imaginative, classically trained chef meets up with the best local ingredients."
